Where did Rich come from?

On May 6, 1944 my baby screams cut through the San Francisco morning fog at St. Mary's Hospital as I was brought forth upon this planet. Thus, the grand adventure began.

My father was killed in World War II and my mom, my sister and myself lived in the basement of my grandmother's house in San Francisco. When I was five years old mother remarried and the family eventually moved to Palo Alto, California.

My interest in radio started when in Grade School. I would take the commute train from Palo Alto to San Francisco, then catch the bus to the Fairmont Hotel where KSFO had their studios. Al Collins and Jack Carney would let me hang around the studio as they did their shows. They were exceptionally kind to the kid interested in radio. The same goes for newsman Wally King. I graduated from high school, joined the Army, and eventually ended up in Armed Forces Radio at Camp Casey in South Korea at Radio Bayonet. I returned to the States to run the Army Hospital Radio Station at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. After getting out of the Service I pursued my commercial radio career. My radio jobs have taken me to small and very large radio markets including Detroit, Dallas, Kansas City and Los Angeles.

My wife, Brenda, is from Missouri. Brenda grew up on a small family farm in north central Missouri. She attended Missouri Valley College and lived in many spots around the country for over 20 years. In 1993 she came home to roost in Carroll County. We met when I was hosting the morning show on WHB Kansas City and simulcasing on it's "sister station" in Carrollton. We married November 24, 2001. Brenda is Traffic Director for Kanza Broadcasting. She also can be heard with her recipe for the week on The Rich Hancock Morning Radio Show.

We are blessed with five children and four grandchildren.

I thank the Lord Jesus for this life and believe the best is yet to come!
